not sure if this will make sense to anyone besides me but: the antidote to negativity is not positivity, its warmth

positivity tells a sad person that there is no reason to be sad. warmth asks the sad person if they want to go get some ice cream

there’s positivity and positivity. 

if my negativity says “everything sucks” and your positivity says “everything’s fine”, please go away… replacing a slight exaggeration with complete unreality isn’t useful.

if my negativity says “everything sucks” and your positivity says “a lot of things suck, but some things don’t” (preferably including a list, with sources), then you can stay.

Guys, be careful you don’t let the unnecessary comment over Peter Capaldi divide you over Twelve versus Thirteen.  The corporate level of the show is trying to divvy the fans up into combative camps for profit and fan “enthusiasm,” it’s what Marvel has always done too.  It’s a publicity stunt for money.   And they did the same thing with the Simm Master and Missy.  “Who’s the best? Put in your vote for your favorite ‘version,’ and tune in!”

If there was any problem with the last “era” of the show, Peter Capaldi was not to blame, but it’s easier to throw an actor exiting the team under the bus than a director or writing staff who retain connections with the current regime.  So the real problem stays protected.  Which is a shame.  

But don’t let that cheapen Peter’s legacy for you, or make you resent Jodie either.  It’s manipulative bullshit. Resist it. ❤  Each Doctor is wonderful for their own reasons.

There is no invisible movement that secretly hates on straight, cis, abled white people, and I say this as a cis white person.  There may be individual assholes who choose to issue blanket judgments of whole privileged social groups.  But it’s not an institutionalized hatred.  

“Social justice warriors” are NOT mongering hatred and anger, they are channeling their outrage, fear, and heartbreak that their right to EXIST is being challenged BY phobes and hate groups.   When they say things like “I hate men!” or “the straights are at it again!” they are using the rhetorical device of irony and of reversal in order to DRAW ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT IT SOUNDS SO LUDICROUS when a member of a privileged group says similar things about a disempowered group. It’s INTENDED AS FARCE, and moreover, it’s a way of using humor as a coping mechanism for having their lives regularly threatened by micro and macro aggressions. 

The tricky thing about OP is that, while it’s incontrovertibly true, saying this gets lost in translation and comes across an anti-social-justice message, for a couple of reasons. 

Let me try to explain.   You have to remember that reverse prejudice is a flawed intellectual construct.

That’s NOT SAYING that white, straight, cis, abled male people do not have real life problems, and are not targeted for fear and suspicion.

But the fear and suspicion exist because there is a historical precedent for these groups producing the MOST phobes and haters.   And this is not because there is something “inherently bad” about men, straights, etc, but because it’s human nature to behave in certain bad ways when you are in unchecked power.  

If you are white, straight, cis and male, chances are, your worst experience of hate is going to be someone on the internet saying something abrasive that hurts your feelings. Not cool, definitely.  But you’ll probably never receive death threats, crooked judicial rulings, threats to your citizenship, threats of rape and violence (including those perpetrated by officers of the law), like a member of a socially marginalized group will.  

The difference that we have to note when we make posts like OP’s post is that people in privileged social groups will be hated AS INDIVIDUALS, but people in Othered/disempowered social groups will be hated AS A GROUP, AND BY ENTIRE SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS.   

This is a difference worth noting, always.
