//I’m actually trying to think of a way to keep this muse relevant when he’s already being forgotten so just… bear in mind how much he means to me and cut me some slack ❤ thanks.
Maybe my art and ideas are dumb, but they give me joy.

//Otay. I know we’re doing stuff on the Academy being revised. Seems like taking measures to dismantle the idea of genealogical caste (basically eugenics) would also…lol be a good step…good God I never realized how fucked up Time Lords were….
//Me too but idk where to start and I’m overwhelmed D:
why did they give this line to the villain
Because they often give the villain the lines that are socially subversive but true, in order to get them past the censors.
Which is incidentally what makes villains often far more relatable than heroes.
Koschei right now:

Nah, you know, it’s okay. I mean first of all, I’m glad you felt you could vent to me without me being cruel in return; hopefully that shows I’m approachable and nice in some regard. ❤ Especially since 90% of my blog lately is spam about how much I adore Thirteen lolol.
What you’re talking about isn’t the same thing as the flimsy smokescreen excuses that male fans, and misogynistic fans in general, keep putting up on social media, when you can point to instances in previous, male, incarnations of the Doctor that hold the same “problems” that these fans claim make the Thirteenth Doctor “terrible.” Like, “she’s too optimistic and clownish!” and you’re left scratching your head wondering what on earth grimdark show they’ve been watching since the 1960s.
Moreover, you’re not saying “Jodie Whittaker ruined Doctor Who!” like these fans almost unilaterally are saying. You’re just saying that every time there’s a new Doctor, you have to undergo an emotional adjustment period. And that’s perfectly fair. And I’m sorry people are conflating that with the sexist assholes crawling out of the woodwork like cockroaches. I personally would argue that the sparse scenes we’ve been shown do already confirm that Jodie has the role under her belt, a combination of confused melancholy and emphatic, sometimes brusque, adventurousness, but not everybody will feel that way off the bat.
Honestly I think I understand where you’re coming from because everyone has a “first” beloved incarnation of a recurring Time Lord character on this show, usually the Doctor or the Master, and I know I do. When it comes to the Master, the first ended up somehow being the favorite too, for me. And I have gotten a lot of flack (mostly over with and done, thankfully), over choosing Simm!Master as my favorite Master. I have even been accused of being “against” Missy, both as a character and as an expressly “female” Master, when in reality I adore Missy: she just doesn’t touch me on a personal level the way Simm’s performance does.
I always have to make it explicitly known that the chosen gender of a character has zero to do with whether or not I love them: all while saying that, also, in the science fiction community in particular, establishing both the Doctor and the Master as women is an epochal event deserving exuberant celebration. The Doctor especially, imho, because she’s a hero figure and a role model to girls and young women now.
It’s a balancing act, because while you don’t want to disregard the Doctor’s gender–because acting like “gender doesn’t matter” is a sign of gendered privilege and shouldn’t be encouraged–you also don’t want to make EVERYTHING about her gender either, eclipsing other nuances of characterization and storytelling intent.
It can be tough, I know. I hope your experience in our fandom improves soon. ❤
I’m pretty sure that “I’m the Doctor” and “When people need help, I never refuse” are two independent lines. After watching the trailer a number of times, I’ve noticed her tone is not quite the same in the two phrases. And they do this with trailers, they mix different lines to achieve the effect they want. I could be wrong. We’ll see.
Highly likely, but what are your conclusions about characterization as a result of this? I’m genuinely curious.
The “I’m the Doctor” part is probably her simply introducing herself (I bet she’ll say “and these are my friends…” right after).
As for “When people need help…”, my guess is she’s been pondering whether to do something reckless in order to protect people, and her conclusion is of course she’ll do it, that’s what she does.
Yeah, see, that makes a lot of sense to me as well. I was just wondering if you thought that had any marked change on how we should interpret her characterization, though, between “these lines are in the same scene” and “these lines are actually from different scenes.” Because I got nothin, but it’s a fascinating train of thought on your part. Editing choices are a really interesting part of consuming media.
//You know what’s funny, MY Master muse as he is NOW, after developing him from 2015 to the present? He would probably be in Mature!Missy’s role, which would be. Oddly fascinating. If you wanted to try out that role reversal.
The thing is, I feel sympathy for The Doctor Falls Master and Early!Missy because their motives aren’t solely nefarious or vengeful; they’re also genuinely afraid of what the Doctor always does to their Companions, which is cause their will to bleed into that of the Companions. The Doctor is dangerous by virtue of being able (and sometimes willing) to inspire other people to die for them, or worse: to wait for them.
Add to that my headcanon, shared by others, that the Master’s telepathic abilities are SO sensitive and intense that they have always had trouble separating self from other in the first place. So they have to shut out other people, especially other people who matter to them (read: the Doctor).
The Master circa the Saxon age would only exacerbate early!Missy’s tendencies, especially since the gift-giving of a Cyberman Army is very Simmy in its chilling mixture of disturbingly wrong and generous. End of Time Master might be like present Master. The Doctor Falls Master remains a strange blip on the radar of his characterization for me, but probably would react like Saxon-age Master.
Also I do not mind your messages lol :3 ❤
